During your initial consultation call we will chat for approximately 10 to 15 minutes at a time that is convenient for you. We may ask you a few questions about your experience to ensure that we are able to help you, and will share more information about what we can offer at Nurture Parenthood. The consultation call gives you an opportunity to ask us any questions and ensure that we are the right support service for you.
Your initial assessment will last approximately one hour. Prior to the assessment we will send you our consent and terms and conditions form, and request basic demographic information from you. We will also send you the Zoom link to your session if it is online. During the assessment itself, we will talk to you about your current situation and past experiences. This may cover things such as your childhood and experiences of being parented, as well as your own journey to parenthood. We may complete some questionnaires to help us to make sense of your current symptoms, and will work together to develop a collaborative treatment plan. This may include specific therapy such as Trauma-Focused CBT, Compassionate Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness or Attachment Based Approaches.

Any necessary reports or correspondence that you request (beyond general administrative duties) are charged at a rate of £50 per hour.
Sessions typically last 50 minutes, although we may agree a different session length depending on your individual needs. Assessment sessions may last slightly longer.
The number of sessions can be guided by you.
With regards to therapy sessions, during your assessment session we may suggest an approximate number of sessions for treatment depending on your symptoms. This recommendation will be based on National Guidelines for the treatment of difficulties such a PTSD, anxiety disorders and low mood. On average we tend to meet with our clients for approximately 8-16 therapy sessions, however we are happy to review this regularly with you and finish treatment when you are feeling ready.
For our specialist midwifery sessions, typically our clients will book a one off session to discuss their antenatal needs or review their birth, however you are welcome to book further sessions if this would be helpful for you.
As part of the therapeutic process, we will need to collect some demographic and personal information from you. You have the right to confidentiality over this information and we can assure you that your information will be kept secure and confidential. There are a few exceptions where we are mandated by law to break confidentiality including:
-
Where your information is officially requested by a court of law
-
Where information that you have disclosed to us would place you or another person at serious risk of harm
-
Where your approval has been given to provide information, such as a report, to another medical professional
In the above circumstances we would always try to discuss this need to break confidentiality with you where possible prior to doing so.
You can absolutely feel free to bring babies along to the session. The perinatal period is a time where baby’s routines may be a bit uncertain, and the pressure of finding childcare may be tricky. We can therefore work around this and include babies in our sessions.
Partners are welcome in therapy session by prior agreement, or you may wish to arrange couple sessions. Partners are welcome in specialist midwifery sessions.
If you arrive late to your session, the session will finish at the planned time.
As you can understand, it is difficult for us to rearrange sessions at short notice. We therefore have a 24 hour cancellation policy, and ask that you give us more than 24 hours notice if you need to postpone or cancel, otherwise you will be charged the full amount for the session.
